Hi! My name is Mrs. Lan Nguyen Metcalf, and this is my 16th year teaching English at Enosburg Falls High School. I teach World Literature, Social Justice & Equity, and Ancient Greek Literature, Mythology, and Philosophy. Equity and inclusion work is a part of my role at EFHS and with Franklin Northeast Supervisory Union as well.
In addition, this is my 15th year working as an in-school coordinator (ISC) for the Northern Vermont University - Johnson TRIO: Upward Bound Program as an educational liaison, which is an academic program for first generation college bound students who come from modest income families to help students with the college and scholarship application processes. If you're interested in being a first generation college student, come find me!
I'm also a full-time working mother of two small children; I have a menagerie of pets and a love for motorcycling. I am a certified Aromatherapist (Level I), and business owner of Simply Organic Body Wellness. I incorporate aromatherapy and mindfulness into my practice as a classroom teacher. I earned my bachelor's degree in English (2007) and master's degree (2014) in Education from Johnson State College (now NVU- Johnson).
I come from a family of immigrants and refugees, as both of my parents are immigrants from two different Asian countries (Vietnam and South Korea). This is one of the reason why equity, education, and their impacts on local and global communities is important to me, and I work hard to underscore the significance of these concepts with my students. I thoroughly enjoy working with high school students and young people through teaching literature, and writing is a wonderful way to explore the world and gain a better understanding of various cultures, philosophies, time periods, and the human condition.
