Besides academic acheivement, Kyla was honored for her leadership and service. She was the leader of the EFHS Green Team that won the Greening Summit at JSC in 2017. This provided the funds to build and install the composting and recycling station in the school cafeteria. Her work through OVX was instrumental in a state law against e cigarettes. She is the current president of the EFHS chapter of the National Honor Society.
The Vermont Presidential Scholars Program recognizes graduating high school seniors from across the state who show outstanding scholarship, leadership and service to their communities. Ten male and 10 female scholars are recognized in the general category and five scholars are nominated in the Career and Technical Education category. The scholars are invited to apply to the U.S. Presidential Scholars Program, which will announce its winners in May
